Role Play - Is there a way to make scorecards optional?

We do not have Seismic Learn, but we are exploring the use of role plays. I took the new Seismic University course, and it states that you can use either the Scorecard rubric, the key talking points, or both for the evaluation of a role play.

Our tenant seems to be configured to require both. Has anyone else had experience with being able to toggle off the scorecard?

Thank you!

@lgluec I can see why this would be a bit confusing and will work with the University team and tech docs to make sure this is very clear, but below is the answer to your question.

We don't support removing the requirement for a scorecard. Scorecards are required, key talking points are optional. They can both be used or you can just use Scorecards.

So the "either/both" language in the course is a bit misleading — in practice:

  • Scorecard is always required for a role-play scenario
  • Key Talking Points are optional on top of it

We recommend filing a Product Enhancement Request with your CSM and talk through the need to turn off scorecards.

Hi there,

Have you tried using the Documentation Assistant AI chat in the product documentation area? https://docs.seismic.com/home

Hit the sparkle icon shown in the upper right - it gave me a pretty detailed response around role-play and scorecard settings that should help get you started.

Thank you - I did, but I like your prompt better! I think I’ll need to get our rep involved to see what settings we have access to. Thanks!

Update for those interested: Docs AI tells me this:

  • If you do not use lessons, the option to attach or detach scorecards may not be available in your current Seismic environment.
  • There is no documentation indicating that scorecards can be toggled for standalone role plays outside of the learning/lesson context.

Thank you @LMaddock  - I appreciate the clear answer. I will be filing a product enhancement request - many of our European countries will not be able to use role plays as we cannot score individuals due to various Works Council rules.

Adding onto the use case to not have Scorecards required, I sent the following on to my CSM and thought I would share here for the community for more additional ideas:

What we built

The Aura role-play builder is genuinely strong at what it's designed for: scenario practice, an AI persona that challenges the seller, and scored feedback against a rubric. We've been using it to build something adjacent — a standing knowledge assistant ("Virtual PM") that AEs can ask product questions to at any time, answered strictly from approved source material. There's no scenario and no seller being scored; it's a helpful assistant rather than a practice opponent.

We got there by repurposing the existing role-play builder — same persona engine, same fields, just pointed at a different purpose. It works, and it's already proving useful. But building it surfaced how close the platform is to supporting this as a first-class use case, not just a workaround.

Why this feels like a bigger opportunity than just us

Almost every company with a sales team wrestles with the same problem we do: reps need fast, accurate, source-grounded product answers, and today that mostly happens by pinging a PM or digging through a knowledge base. A "Virtual PM" mode — built on the same AI persona technology Seismic already has — would let any customer stand up an always-on, source-grounded product expert in minutes. We think that's a genuinely compelling capability, and Seismic already owns most of the underlying technology to do it.

A few small adjustments would take it from "something we bent the role-play tool into" to "a capability Seismic could market in its own right":

1. Make the scorecard optional for this mode. It's currently mandatory, which is right for scored role play, but there's nothing meaningful to score about the seller in a Q&A interaction. We've worked around this with a lightweight Yes/No check on the assistant's own accuracy rather than the seller's performance — it works, but a native "no scorecard needed" option would make this cleaner for anyone building the same thing.

2. A written call summary with next steps would make this shine. The current coaching output is built around the scorecard score, which makes sense for role play. For a knowledge-assistant interaction, the far more valuable output would be a plain-written summary of what was asked and answered, plus suggested next steps — something the AE can genuinely act on and refer back to. This feels like the single highest-value addition for this use case.

3. Let a persona reference live external pages, not just uploaded documents. For us, a great example would be being able to point a persona at the Genesys Cloud Resource Centre directly. Supporting external URLs or HTML pages as a knowledge source alongside attached files — similar to a content library,  it would keep a Virtual PM current with more technical detail without constant manual re-uploads, and would be valuable well beyond our use case.

Great use case that would be helpful for us as well!

We are trying to develop something similar to use for opportunity review with our sellers - share details of a potential opportunity to evaluate whether the rep is ready to take it to their manager for the official opportunity review meeting, or whether they need to develop the opportunity further.

A lot of interesting convo coming in this thread!

I would guess that the configurability of scorecards would allow for a fairly simple workaround to it being in place but not functionally grading or bringing into question compliance for most audiences - but with that said I in general agree @lgluec that flexibility in deployment of features is almost always a good idea.

@AWB super interesting use case and info! So this ‘agent’ is contained within Seismic and built from an existing builder they have? The use case you’re describing sounds very similar to other offerings I’ve seen in the enablement space, but would probably fall under an AI class or ‘aura’ product than something related to roleplay or coaching. It’s more like an always on product expert available for use during calls or while in workflows, no?

I would definitely want to know more and dig into the concept of allowing external pages or sources into the ‘library’ of knowledge for such an agent, though. Surely there would be some risk there for muddying the waters without exceptional governance.
